Herbaceous perennial with a small spherical corm, from which comes a straight aerial stem 40-70 cm tall with several slightly deviated, flat, linear-lanceolate leaves 5-15 cm wide. The inflorescence is a one-sided apical spike of large irregular, almost two-lipped, purple-violet flowers. Blooms in June-July.

It grows in forests in damp places, in wet, non-flooded meadows, among shrubs. It is found in Belarus, more often in the north and east of the republic.

Medicinal raw materials in folk medicine is the whole plant. Smoke when burning the above-ground part fumigate babies when frightened; alcohol tincture of rhizomes is rubbed with rheumatism, articular tumors.
