Saussurea biennial (bitter 2-year-old)
Perennial herbaceous plant up to 100 cm tall. The rhizome is thick, horizontal, the stems are straight, unbranched. Basal leaves on cuttings, stem – almost sessile, oblong, with a heart-shaped base and a pointed apex, finely dentate. Flower baskets are collected in dense corymbose inflorescences. Flowers are dark purple. Blooms in June-July.
Distributed in Central and Eastern Siberia. It grows in mountainous places, in meadows, on limestone rocks.
In folk medicine, a decoction of the aerial parts of the plant is drunk for glaucoma, pulmonary diseases, and as a hemostatic agent.
