Norway spruce (Picea abies L.)

Norway spruce is a tall coniferous tree from the Pine family (Pinaceae).

Description:

Well-known tree 30-50 m in height with a pyramidal crown and dark green, slightly laterally compressed needles, 2-3 cm long. Cones are oblong – cylindrical, large. Grows on moist loams and sandy loams. Forms forests.

Medicinal use:

A decoction of the kidneys is drunk with pulmonary tuberculosis. The resin obtained by tapping is digested with pork fat, wax is added for a firmer consistency, and the ointment thus obtained is used for furunculosis; paws of spruce are boiled with salt and baths are made for sciatica; resin is used for various abscesses.
