Medical fumes (Fumaria officinalis L.)

Dymyanka medicinal is an annual plant from the Buttercup family (Ranunculaceae).


An annual low plant (up to 40 cm) with strongly deviated branches, seated with thin, tender, doubly pinnate leaves; flowers are collected in racemes, small, purple-pink, bilaterally symmetrical, with a spur; the fruit is a one-seeded nutlet, the seeds are small, black. Blossoms in May-June. Dymyanka is found as a weed in fields and gardens.

Contains active substances:

Fumarin alkaloid, a bitter substance, fusaric acid, resin, mucus were found in the herb of the fumigation.

Medicinal use:

A decoction of herb dymyanka is used for nervous diseases. According to some reports, it has a hypotensive effect. It is used in Western European medicine as a gastric, laxative; in homeopathy for eczema.
