ORDINARY ISTOD (Polygala vulgaris L.)For medicinal purposes, the roots and grass of the common source are used. Roots (Radix Polygalae) are harvested in August – September. When digging, they are thoroughly shaken off, but not washed. Dried raw materials are dried in the shade, under sheds, in well-ventilated rooms or in dryers at a temperature of 45-50°C. The shelf life of raw materials is 3 years. The grass is harvested during the flowering period of the plant. In addition to the common source, in folk medicine, the crested source (Polygala comosa Schk.) is used, which differs from the first in a yellowish-brown root, also in longer median bracts that exceed the flower buds and form a crest at the top of the inflorescence. Also, this species has flowers in a denser raceme and more than in the common source, pink-lilac, pink or blue-lilac and all sepals and pedicels are colored in the same way, like a whisk. The bitter source (Polygala amarella Crantz) differs from the ordinary and crested source by the presence of a basal rosette of larger obovate leaves, smaller, 3-4 mm in length, blue or blue flowers, collected in a sparse brush, and from the crested source, in addition , shorter median bracts that do not form a tuft at the top of the inflorescence.
