COLLECTION AND DRYING OF RAW MATERIALS

For medicinal purposes, the herb (aerial part of the plant) of Avran officinalis is used, which is harvested during the flowering period, and rhizomes dug out in the fall. The grass is dried outdoors in the shade or in a room with good ventilation. Dried raw materials consist of leafy stems with or without flowers and partly with fruits. When harvesting for seed propagation, it will be necessary to leave 20-30% of the plants. The shelf life of raw materials is 2 years. The raw material has a rather bitter, pungent, nauseating taste. The plant retains toxicity even after drying.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

The plant has a strong laxative, diuretic, emetic and anthelmintic effect. The alcoholic tincture of the leaves acts on the heart like foxglove.
