Botanical description. The original (wild) form is a prickly tree from 3 to 8 m in height. Flowers pink-red to white. Cultural forms are very diverse and almost all without thorns. It grows in its homeland – in the subtropics of China and Asia Minor; the tree is cultivated in many states with a warm climate, especially in the Mediterranean.
Active ingredients: fatty oil, protein, mucus, enzymes and hydrocyanic acid glycoside (J-amig-dalin); in addition, choline, asparagine and vitamin C.
Application. Bitter almonds are used primarily in homeopathy – for asthma and diphtheria, also as a seasoning.
