Botanical description. Annual herbaceous plant within 50 cm in height, with alternate leaves and pale blue bilabiate flowers collected in a brush. Native to North America; cultivated in Russia.
Active ingredients: numerous alkaloids’ (including lobelia) and substances close to alkaloids.
Application. Used as a tincture for coughs and asthma, whooping cough and bronchitis; the herb is added to anti-asthma cigarettes and smoking tobacco.
