Common raspberry is a shrub with biennial shoots, 50-150 cm high. In the first year, the shoots are green, in the second they become woody, and die off after fruiting. Shoots unbranched (sometimes slightly branched), thin, short-haired, more or less densely covered with thorns. The leaves are pinnately compound, with 3-5, rarely 7 leaflets, which are dark green above and white-tomentose below. The flowers are white, several in small racemes emerging from the axils of the apical leaves. The fruits are prefabricated drupes (from 30-60 fruitlets), which, when ripe, are easily removed from the white conical receptacle. The plant blooms in June-July. The fruits ripen in July-August.

The fruits are harvested as they ripen in dry weather, after the dew has dried, put in small baskets or buckets and immediately dried, laying out a thin layer (2-3 cm) on sieves or sheets, in ovens or dryers at a temperature of 50-60 °. You can pre-wilt the fruits in the sun for several days. When dried slowly, they become moldy easily. The yield of dry raw materials is 16-18%.

According to the GF – IX Art. 220, GOST 3525-47, the raw material consists of whole fruits of a round-conical shape, 7.5-12 mm long, which do not stick together into lumps, grayish-red. The smell is peculiar, slightly aromatic. The taste is sweet-sour, pleasant. Humidity is not higher than 15%. In raw materials, no more than (percent) is allowed: fruits stuck together in lumps (up to 2 cm in diameter) – 4, browned and blackened fruits – 8, fruits with a fruit and stalks – 2, crushed parts (passing through a sieve with a hole diameter of 2 mm ) – 4, other parts of raspberries, organic and mineral impurities – 0.5 each.

The total ash content should not exceed 4%, ash insoluble in 10% hydrochloric acid, 0.5%.

Dry fruits are packed in bags weighing 50 kg. Store in dry, well-ventilated areas on racks. Storage period up to 3 years. Re-control is not performed.

Fruits contain essential oil, organic acids (citric, malic, salicylic, tartaric), sugar, pectin. Apply infusion and fees as a diaphoretic for colds. A syrup is made from fresh fruits, which is used to improve the taste of medicines, and is also widely used in the food industry.
