It occurs in Polissya and in the northern part of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. It grows in forests, on the edges, in thickets of bushes. In forest areas, on cutting areas that have begun to overgrow, it forms sparse thickets on tens and even hundreds of hectares. In the Carpathians it rises to the upper border of the forest. Cultivated everywhere.
Stocks of raw materials are large. Dozens of tons of fruits can be harvested annually. The main blanks are produced in the Transcarpathian, Lvov, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Ternopil, Volyn, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Chernihiv regions.
Common raspberry is a shrub with biennial shoots, 50-150 cm high. In the first year, the shoots are green, in the second they become woody, and die off after fruiting. Shoots unbranched (sometimes slightly branched), thin, short-haired, more or less densely covered with thorns. The leaves are pinnately compound, with 3-5, rarely 7 leaflets, which are dark green above and white-tomentose below. The flowers are white, several in small racemes emerging from the axils of the apical leaves. The fruits are prefabricated drupes (from 30-60 fruitlets), which, when ripe, are easily removed from the white conical receptacle. The plant blooms in June-July. The fruits ripen in July-August.
The fruits are harvested as they ripen in dry weather, after the dew has dried, put in small baskets or buckets and immediately dried, laying out a thin layer (2-3 cm) on sieves or sheets, in ovens or dryers at a temperature of 50-60 °. You can pre-wilt the fruits in the sun for several days. When dried slowly, they become moldy easily. The yield of dry raw materials is 16-18%.
According to the GF – IX Art. 220, GOST 3525-47, the raw material consists of whole fruits of a round-conical shape, 7.5-12 mm long, which do not stick together into lumps, grayish-red. The smell is peculiar, slightly aromatic. The taste is sweet-sour, pleasant. Humidity is not higher than 15%. In raw materials, no more than (percent) is allowed: fruits stuck together in lumps (up to 2 cm in diameter) – 4, browned and blackened fruits – 8, fruits with a fruit and stalks – 2, crushed parts (passing through a sieve with a hole diameter of 2 mm ) – 4, other parts of raspberries, organic and mineral impurities – 0.5 each.
The total ash content should not exceed 4%, ash insoluble in 10% hydrochloric acid, 0.5%.
Dry fruits are packed in bags weighing 50 kg. Store in dry, well-ventilated areas on racks. Storage period up to 3 years. Re-control is not performed.
Fruits contain essential oil, organic acids (citric, malic, salicylic, tartaric), sugar, pectin. Apply infusion and fees as a diaphoretic for colds. A syrup is made from fresh fruits, which is used to improve the taste of medicines, and is also widely used in the food industry.
