An annual plant with pinnately divided leaves, flowers of various colors (usually orange-red or bright purple) and a spherical box, narrowed at the base into a short stem. The whole plant is pubescent. Blooms in May-June.
It grows in weedy places, in crops, along roads, embankments.
Poppy seed contains alkaloids: morphine, papaverine, narcein, rhoeadin, etc.
Application
Tea: 3 g of dry petals per 20 ml of boiling water, after cooling, filter and drink 1 tbsp. spoon 3 times every day (antitussive).
