KOHIA BROOM, panicle-shaped (katun)

 

An annual herbaceous plant with a strongly branched stem 50-100 cm tall, having a pyramidal or almost spherical shape. Leaves are small and narrow. The flowers are small, green, in bunches, located in the axils of the upper leaves. Blooms from July to September. In autumn, the dried plant breaks off from the root and rolls over the fields with the wind (tumbleweed).

The natural range of the plant covers the steppe regions of the Altai Territory, Transbaikalia and the Amur Region. Almost universally bred as an ornamental plant.

Medicinal raw materials are seeds that contain saponins.

Widely used in Chinese medicine as a diuretic, tonic and heart remedy (infusions and decoctions of seeds). It is applied externally in the form of lotions for skin diseases.

Application

Infusion or decoction: 10 g per 200 ml; 1/4 cup of the product 3-4 times every day before meals.
