A perennial flat-bush grass up to 100 cm high with narrow linear rough leaves and characteristic fluffy-pinnate longish networks extending from pointed grain fruits. Blooms in May-June.
Distributed throughout the steppe zone, grows in open spaces and rocky slopes of the foothills.
Medicinal raw materials are grass and roots dug up in autumn. Grass is harvested during flowering.
It has long been used as a folk remedy for goiter (thyroid disease) in the form of a decoction in milk along with poultices from grass. A decoction of the roots is sometimes used for paralysis.
