Brassica oleracea L. Ukrainian name – gorodnya cabbage.
Cruciferous family – Brassicaceae (Cruciferae).
For therapeutic purposes, fresh cabbage leaves are used.
Garden cabbage – Fruits – pods 6-10 cm long with dark brown seeds.
A large number of types of cabbage are grown (head cabbage, white and red, cauliflower, asparagus, Savoy, leaf, etc.). White cabbage is of the greatest industrial importance.
Cabbage leaves contain fiber, enzymes, tartonic acid, a lot of salts (potassium, calcium, phosphorus, sulfur), vitamins C, A, B 1 B 2 , B 6 , P, K. Found antiulcer vitamin U (ulcus ulcer), promotes healing of stomach and duodenal ulcers. Tartonic acid inhibits the conversion of carbohydrates into fats, thereby preventing obesity. Fiber prevents the development of atherosclerosis, improves the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. Of the mineral salts, potassium is of particular value, which helps to remove excess fluid from the body and sodium, which has the ability to bind water.
Fresh cabbage juice effectively heals gastric and duodenal ulcers, it is also used for cholecystitis, obesity, atherosclerosis, gastritis with low acidity and ulcerative colitis. The ready-made pharmacy form – dry cabbage juice (Succi Brassicae Sicci), obtained by squeezing and drying fresh white cabbage juice, is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers.
