Tuberous iron ( Phlomis tuberosa); zopnik tuber nosny
Perennial herbaceous plant of the labiumaceae family. The stem is erect, 30-100 cm tall, bare, purple-purple, four-sided, branched at the top, with few upwardly directed branches. The leaves are opposite; basal and lower stems – petiolate, triangular-heart-shaped, large serrations, grayish pubescent below; the upper ones are sessile, ovate-lanceolate, sparsely pubescent or almost bare. The flowers are irregular, dirty pink, collected in 10-16 flower rings. The fruit consists of four nuts. Blooms in June – July.
Distribution . It grows throughout the territory of Ukraine (except mountainous regions and Northern Polissia) in forest glades, forest edges, and steppe slopes.
Raw. Herbs collected during the flowering of the plant are used to make medicines. The plant is unofficial.
Chemical composition. The herb contains alkaloids, tannins, ascorbic acid, essential oil, micro- and macroelements (iron, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, nickel, titanium). Root tubers contain saponins.
Pharmacological properties and use . It has been experimentally proven that the infusion of the herb 3alizniak bulbous causes a significant narrowing of blood vessels. No toxic effect of the plant was detected. As evidenced by M.I. Solomchenko, on the basis of clinical observations, with long-term use of infusion of ironwood in patients with chronic gastritis, the acidity of gastric juice normalizes (with secretory insufficiency, the acidity of the juice increases, and increased acidity decreases), heartburn and pain disappear. In traditional medicine, the plant is used for bronchitis, inflammation and tuberculosis of the lungs, anemia, edema and dropsy, hemorrhoids and malaria, and for convulsions in children.
Medicinal forms and applications.
Internally – infusion of the herb (2-4 tablespoons of the herb per 400 ml of boiling water) for half a glass three times a day;
tincture of grass (10 g of raw material per 100 g of vodka, infused for 8-10 days) 1 tablespoon three times a day;
the herb 3aliznyak tuberous is simmered with water until a thick mass is formed, which is diluted by half with milk and drunk with sugar in case of tuberculosis.
Root tubers are a useful and nutritious food product. They are consumed boiled, baked and fried. The tubers are kept raw, like potatoes, or dried. Flour suitable for pancakes, fritters, etc. is obtained from dry tubers.
