Sea bream (Hydrocharis morsussanae); ordinary watercress (frog).
A perennial, floating dioecious plant of the sedge family, 15-30 cm tall. The stems are filiform, submerged, with lateral shoots, on the tops of which wintering buds are formed. The leaves are floating, long-petiolate, roundly heart-shaped, 5-7 cm long, with two large membranous stipules. The flowers are unisexual, regular, with a simple perianth of 6 leaves, of which the three inner ones are petal-shaped, white, with a yellowish base; stamen flowers are collected several in one covering, pistillate flowers are single, on long legs. The fruit is multi-seeded, with a leathery integument. Blooms in June-July.
Spread. Common sea bream grows scattered throughout the territory of Ukraine in fresh stagnant and slow-flowing waters.
Raw. For medicinal purposes, dried grass is used, which is harvested during the flowering of the plant.
The plant is unofficial.
The chemical composition has not yet been studied .
Pharmacological properties and use . Infusion of common sedum grass has astringent, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. The use of herbal infusion is indicated for diarrhea, white hair, frequent pollution, excessive sexual desire, restless sleep. Crushed leaves are applied to inflamed areas of the body.
Medicinal forms and applications .
Internally – herbal infusion (2 teaspoons of raw material per 200 ml of boiling water, infuse for 1-2 hours, strain) 1-2 tablespoons 3 times a day.
