Botanical description. Tree from 10 to 20 m in height, with light (to gray-brown) fissured bark, often overgrown with lichens. Grows in western Africa.

Active ingredients: yohimbine and other alkaloids, tannic acid and coloring matter.

Application. Previously, yohimbe bark was a popular remedy for potency (in medicine and veterinary medicine); now it is used mainly for the production of the alkaloid yohimbine, a sexual stimulant and a blood pressure lowering agent.
