The polygamous hernia is also allowed for harvesting and use, the stocks of raw materials of which are much larger. This species is found in forest-steppe and steppe regions (rarely in the west) and in the south of Polissya. Grows mainly on light soils (second terraces of rivers, sometimes near-channel floodplains, also dry steppe slopes of gullies and river valleys, sometimes as a weed in fields and young fallows).

Besser’s hernia found in the south of the Forest-Steppe and in the steppe regions and in the Odessa region, the rough hernia should not be harvested and used.

Grass is harvested during flowering, cut with knives or sickles.

According to GOST 21566-76, the raw material consists of whole plants without roots with shoots up to 15 cm long. The leaves are greenish-yellow, 2-10 mm long. Flowers yellowish-green, in small clusters. The smell is coumarin. The taste is slightly tart, with a slimy feel. Humidity is not higher than 13%. In raw materials, no more than 2% of plants with poorly pruned roots, 10% of crumbled leaves and 1% of organic and mineral impurities are allowed.

Dry grass is packed in bales of 100 kg. Store in dry, well-ventilated areas on pallets. Storage period up to 2 years. Raw hernia is exported.

The herb contains herniarine glycoside, herniariesaponin, paropikhin alkaloid, geumarin, umbelliferone methyl ester, essential oil. Used as a diuretic. Used in homeopathy. Gryzhnik can wash pets (hence the name “dog soap”).
