Jugs are yellow. Water lily is white

What do yellow jugs look like? Perennial aquatic plant over 100 cm long, with horizontal rough, petiole-scarred, rhizome and floating, almost leathery, cordate-cordate entire leaves. The flowers are yellow, fragrant, 4-5 cm in diameter, the sepals are rounded-inverted-ovate, green or greenish below, yellow above. Fruits are bare, green, smooth, slimy. Blooms in June – August.

Where do yellow pitcher plants grow? In stagnant and slow-flowing waters—in rivers, lakes, and lakes—almost throughout the territory of Ukraine. They are found in large numbers on the left bank of the republic (in forest and forest-steppe areas); to a lesser extent in ponds and rivers — on the right bank. It rarely grows in steppe areas and floodplains of large rivers.

What and when are collected? Rhizomes – during flowering and in June – September. They are plucked out with rakes or by hand with prior trimming with knives. Leaves, flowers and rhizomes are separated, which are cut with knives into thin plates (3-5 mm thick) and dried in attics with good ventilation under an iron roof, spread out in a thin layer on burlap or paper.

When are yellow jugs used? The rhizomes of plants contain the poisonous alkaloid nufarin, tannins, starch, sitosterol, stigmasterol, and metarabinic acid. Large doses of plant infusion cause vomiting, diarrhea, sleep. Death may occur from paralysis of the central nervous system. Small doses of jugsyellow ones cause excitement of the body. With caution in inflammatory processes of the gastrointestinal tract (astringent effect), anacid gastritis, rheumatism, dysentery, skin diseases, excessive menstruation, and in sexual disorders — impotence, coldness — rhizome decoctions are used. Externally used for douching in acute and chronic trichomonad colpitis, complicated by bacterial and fungal (Candida type) flora. Treatment consists of 10-20 procedures performed daily or every other day, depending on tolerance; only four courses. Procedures are prescribed after menstruation. As a contraceptive, it is used for douching 5-10 minutes before sexual intercourse.

To make a decoction, boil 4 spoons of crushed rhizomes in 1 liter of water for 5-7 minutes. Flour from rhizomes is a proven remedy against cockroaches. The leaves and flowers contain glycosides that have a beneficial effect on the activity of the heart.

What does a white water lily (white water lily) look like? Aquatic plant with large floating round-oval entire leaves and large white flowers.

When is it used? In case of fever, against insomnia (the hands and feet are rubbed with the infusion of fresh petals kept in water for a long time), in case of heart failure (in the form of a tincture or an infusion made from a mixture of the same amount of dried petals of white water lily flowers and hawthorn flowers, for the preparation of which take 2 tablespoons each of each plant in 1 glass of boiling water; 1 tablespoon is used after 2 hours — action of alkaloid nufarin and glycoside nymphalin) and for the treatment of diarrhea and purulent wounds (powder from rhizomes of white water lily — action of tannins). A decoction of rhizomes is used to wash the head with hair loss.
