Viper in the yazolisty (Filipendula ulmaria); meadowsweet
Perennial herbaceous plant of the rose family. It has a creeping woody rhizome without tubers. The stem is 50-200 cm tall, erect, unbranched, leafy. Leaves intermittently pinnate; lateral leaves (2-5 pairs) broadly ovate, incised serrate, white downy below. The flowers are small, bisexual, regular, 5-petalled (rarely 6-petalled), yellowish-white, fragrant, in a dense panicle inflorescence. Petals — with a long nail. The fruit is a leaf. Blooms in June – July.
Spread. It grows throughout the territory of Ukraine (it occurs less often in the south) on wet meadows, riverbanks and swamps, in swampy forests.
Procurement and storage . Herbs collected during flowering and rhizomes with roots harvested in autumn (September-October) or early spring (April) are used. The dug rhizomes and roots are washed with cold water, cut into pieces (10-15 cm) and dried under a tent or in the attic. The shelf life is 3 years. Pharmacies do not release raw materials.
The plant is unofficial.
Chemical composition. The herb contains tannins, dyes, salicylic and ascorbic acids, gaulterin and spirein glycosides. All parts of the plant contain methyl salicylic essential oil.
Pharmacological properties and use. The plant has diaphoretic, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-rheumatic properties. Internally, in the form of infusions or decoctions of grass or roots (roots are more active in action), viper is used as a diaphoretic for flu and high temperature, gout, rheumatism, hysterical fits, severe pain in the stomach and intestines accompanied by inflammation, hemorrhoids, as a diuretic for diseases of the urinary bladder and kidneys and as a tonic for catarrh of the upper respiratory tract. It is effective to use the products of the viper inside and in the treatment of skin diseases. In addition, herbal infusion is sometimes used for headache, shortness of breath, heart disease, diarrhea, dysentery, and as an anthelmintic. Externally, preparations of Viper’s viper (juice, decoctions, ointments) are used in the treatment of wounds, ulcers and boils, in cases of bites and bites of snakes or rabid animals. For prophylactic purposes, the plant is also used in food: young leaves, shoots and roots – for dressing soups, borschts and salads; flowers – as a brew for tea (mixture of dry flowers of Viper and rosehip petals in a ratio of 10:1).
Medicinal forms and applications . Internally – drink an infusion of the herb (1 teaspoon of dry crushed herb per glass of boiling water) in equal portions during the day;
decoction (5 g of dry crushed roots per 200 ml of boiling water) 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day;
4 spoons of a mixture of Viper’s viper flowers, leaves of common milkweed, grass of the naked sedge, horsetail and common sedge, corn cobs, bean husks, elderberry root, birch buds and petals of blue cornflower in a ratio of 1:1.5:1 :1:1:1,5:1,5:1,5:1,5:1 pour 1 liter of raw water in the evening, boil for 5-10 minutes in the morning, steam for 30 minutes, filter and drink warm a day for 6-7 receptions for inflammatory processes in the urinary organs, edema, polyarthritis and gout;
6 tablespoons of a mixture of viper’s viper flowers, St. Nettle grass or stinging nettle and St. John’s wort in a 1:1:1 ratio are steamed in a thermos, strained and drunk during the day in 4-5 doses with severe stomach pains.
Externally , ointment (powder of the roots of the Viper and butter in a ratio of 1:5 or powder of the roots of the Viper, vaseline and lanolin in the ratio of 1:2:1 by volume) for lubrication of the affected areas in inflammatory dermatoses and for rubbing with rheumatism;
a mixture of the roots of viper and snake mustard in a ratio of 1:1 is prepared as a decoction (40 g of the mixture per 2 liters of boiling water) for washing purulent wounds, for douching for baldness, for enemas for diarrhea and for lotions for wounds, ulcers, fistulas and boils
