Volodushka multiveined (veterinary practice)

Volodushka multiveined – bupleurum multinerve dc.

 

Botanical characteristic. Umbrella family. Perennial herbaceous plant, up to 70, sometimes up to 100 cm high. Stems (2-3 or more) erect. Basal and lower stem leaves are lanceolate or linear-lanceolate with 5-7 veins. Leaf length 3-15 cm, width 1.5 cm. Middle and upper stem leaves several times shorter. The flowers are in umbels with five yellow petals. Blossoms in June – July, bears fruit in August (Fig. 14).

Spreading. It grows in the steppe and forest-steppe zones, rises to the mountains up to 2 km. It grows in steppe meadows, slopes, forest edges, in Siberia, the Far East, Central Asia, the European part of the USSR, the Middle and Southern Urals.

Medicinal raw materials. The aerial parts of the plant (grass) are used during the period of budding – flowering of the plant and dried immediately in a place protected from light. Store in tight boxes or paper bags in a dry, dark place.

From other species, the golden volokushka is also collected – Bupleurum aureum Fisch. This is a perennial herbaceous plant, the stem is smooth, straight, up to 150 cm high. The basal and lower stem leaves are oblong-obovate, the middle ones are sessile ovate, the upper ones are small, wider, bright green. The flowers are yellow with a golden hue. Blooms in June – July. It occurs mainly in birch and mixed forests, in lightened forest areas, in the southern part of the forest and forest-steppe zones of Siberia and the Urals.

Chemical composition. The herb of the plant contains saponins, tannins, essential oils, vitamin C, carotene, flavonoids (rutin, quercetin, isoquerticin, norcissin), etc.

pharmacological properties. Infusion of herbs has a pronounced choleretic effect. Volodushka preparations enhance the secretion of the glands of the stomach and pancreas, have an antiseptic effect. The P-vitamin product buplerin is also used, which is a purified amount of flavonoids from the herb multi-veined volodushka. It reduces capillary permeability during inflammation. Bioflavonoids of the volodushka also have anti-inflammatory properties. The most active action in flowers and leaves.

Application. In folk veterinary medicine, an infusion or decoction of the plant is recommended as a laxative, choleretic (for cholecystitis, angiocholitis, hepatitis) and stimulants. Leaves are applied to cut wounds for their rapid healing.
