Cornflower meadow

 

Perennial herbaceous plant. Stem erect 40-70 cm high, seated with lanceolate leaves, slightly rough; flowers – exact baskets on the tops of the stem and branches, equipped with a tiled wrapper, each leaf of which is expanded at the top into a black fringed appendage; marginal flowers – funnel-shaped, pink; median – tubular, dark pink. Blooms all summer.

Grows in meadows, slopes, forest glades of Belarus. Occurs frequently.

The grass contains tannins, centaurin (xanthoglycoside). In folk medicine, they drink for heart disease, headache, stomach pain, uterine diseases; make baths for rheumatism; with diathesis, children’s eczema bathe babies; when muscles and tendons are stretched, they are covered with steamed grass.

Infusion: 1 tbsp. a spoonful of flowers in a glass of boiling water, leave for 2 hours, take 1 tbsp. spoon 3-4 times every day for jaundice, itchy rashes, back pain.
