Description. Perennial herbaceous plant from the norichnikov family (Scrophulariaceae), height 2050 cm. Rhizome creeping, segmented, covered with scales. The stem is tetrahedral above, reddish below, erect, branched. The leaves are opposite, semi-amplexica, lanceolate, often triangular, 35 cm long and within 1 cm wide, serrated or serrated in the upper part. Flowers axillary, solitary, white or pale pink. Blooms throughout the summer. The fruit is a brownish egg-shaped box. The seeds are small: the weight of 1000 seeds is within 0.05 g.

Habitat. Grows in moist, damp places, along river banks, in water meadows, near lakes and other bodies of water, in hollows, ditches, slopes, forest edges.

Spreading. It grows in the southern and steppe regions of the forest zone of the European part of the Union, Central Asia, Western Siberia, and Transcaucasia.

Composition of active substances . Avran grass contains glycosides (gracioside, graciomide, graciotoxin), saponins, organic acids (betulinic, malic, tannic), fatty oil.

Application. Avran herb with flowers (rarely rhizome) is used as a powerful laxative, diuretic, emetic, antihelminthic. Avran is also used against dropsy, with diseases of the spleen, liver, hemorrhoids, gout, chronic skin diseases, scabies. An ointment from the juice of fresh avran grass mixed with fat is used to treat wounds, ulcers, eczema, and scabies. In chronic skin diseases, A. S. Tomilin recommends taking the powder from the herb avran inside (0.2 g three times every day). He also considers avran a remedy that resembles foxglove in its action in the treatment of heart failure (Tomilin, 1969).

In folk medicine, avran has long been used in the treatment of many diseases. Its powder in a dose of 0.51.0 g per reception is used as a laxative; an infusion or decoction of 23 g of grass per 200 g of water is taken in a tablespoon after 2 hours in the treatment of dropsy.

Collection. The grass is cut with sickles during the flowering of the plant.

Drying. Dry traditionally in attics under an iron roof, with good ventilation. To avoid overheating, the grass is laid out in a thin layer.

The pack is produced in bags of 20 kg.

Storage . Raw materials are stored in a packaged form in a dry, sufficiently ventilated area on racks or pallet boxes.

quality requirements . In accordance with MRTU-42 No. 70962, dry stems and leaves should be green, and the flowers should be yellowish, bitter in taste, with a weak aroma. Moisture 13% is allowed; parts of grass that have lost their natural color, 5; organic and mineral impurities, 1 each; crushed parts passing through a sieve with holes with a diameter of 1 mm, 3%.
