Keratitis (inflammation of the cornea)

Inflammation of the corneaKeratitis is a serious disease that leads to a violation of the transparency of the cornea, a sharp decrease in vision and the spread of the inflammatory process deep into the eye.

The cause of keratitis is an infection. The most dangerous are the herpetic virus, fungi, protozoal infection, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas.

Infection of the cornea provokes trauma, which can be caused both by a simple mechanical injury to the eye and by wearing lenses.

Viral keratitis often develops against the background of a decrease in the general immunity of the body.

As a rule, keratitis is accompanied by decreased vision, redness of the eye, lacrimation, photophobia, and sharp pains.

Reduced vision and pain in the eye cause severe discomfort and completely deprive the possibility of leading a normal life.

Keratitis is treated with antibiotics, antiviral and anti-inflammatory products specific for each specific infection. Treatment is traditionally long and does not always lead to a complete cure. After severe keratitis, clouding of the cornea remains forever – a thorn that significantly reduces vision and worsens the cosmetic appearance of a person.

Many keratitis are recurrent (repeating) in nature, and each subsequent attack of inflammation causes more and more persistent changes in the cornea.

The most difficult to treat are herpetic, protozoal and fungal keratitis. Sometimes drug therapy is powerless.

Today, a new method for the treatment of severe inflammatory diseases of the cornea has appeared. This method is calledcross-linking of the cornea .

The essence of the method lies in the fact that with the help of a special device – the Sailer lamp, the cornea is completely sterilized (that is, the entire infection in the thickness of the cornea is destroyed) using a specially focused homogenized monochrome ultraviolet radiation.

At the same time, corneal edema caused by the inflammatory process is eliminated.

One procedure is enough to stop the inflammatory process and eliminate the infection.

After the procedure, the pain disappears, the eye calms down, the transparency of the corneas improves, and visual acuity increases.

Today, for those who suffer from severe forms of inflammation of the cornea, there is hope for a cure!

History reference:

In 2008, Dr. Seiler received the highest award in ophthalmology, the Kellman Prize, for his innovative invention. The Seiler cross-linking lamp has a patented ultraviolet beam homogenization system. It is the homogenization of the beam that determines the effectiveness and safety of the procedure.

The cross-linking method has been used since 1996 for the treatment of severe corneal diseases.

In Ukraine, the Sailer lamp is certified and approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
