Itsenko-Cushing syndrome

Itsenko-Cushing syndrome

Itsenko-Cushing syndrome– hypercorticism caused by hyperproduction of glucocorticoids by the adrenal cortex due to glucosteroma (p. 273) or an ACTH-secreting tumor of various organs (bronchi, thymus, pancreas, liver, but not the pituitary gland). In the last case they talk about the syndrome of ectopic production of ACTH. Separately, iatrogenic (drug) Itsenko-Cushing’s syndrome is distinguished, which occurs much more often than spontaneous; traditionally develops in patients who have been receiving glucocorticoids for a long time for bronchial asthma and other diseases. The clinic and diagnosis of Itsenko-Cushing syndrome depend on the ratio of the action of glucocorticoids and ACTH on target organs. See also Score-Cushing’s Disease, Paraneoplastic ICD Syndrome. E24 Cushing’s syndrome Note. The concept of (Itsenko-) Cushing’s syndrome has a different interpretation in American and Russian literature. In American literature, Cushing’s syndrome is a designation for a condition of any origin characterized by an elevated level of glucocorticoids.
