ORDINARY TIN, STICKY (Viscaria vulgaris Bernh.)Perennial herbaceous plant of the clove family (Caryophyllaceae), up to 1 m high, with branched rhizome and basal leaf rosette. The stem is almost always erect, simple or occasionally branched, sticky under the upper internodes, reddish in color. The leaves are opposite, glabrous, ciliate only at the base, pointed, entire. Basal leaves obovate, passing into a long petiole; stem sessile, lanceolate. Flowers in whorls, collected in a long discontinuous panicle. Bracts are ciliate, reddish in color. Flowers on short stalks. Corolla large, pink-red, rarely white. The fruit is an ovoid capsule on a stalk, opened with five teeth. Blossoms in May – June, fruits ripen in June – July. Propagated by seeds. Grows on meadow-covered pine forests, sandy slopes, edges and clearings in pine forests. Tillage adversely affects the abundance of this heat-loving species.

COLLECTION AND DRYING OF RAW MATERIALS

For medicinal purposes, tar grass is used, which is harvested during the flowering period. Dry outdoors under awnings, in well-ventilated rooms or in dryers.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

The plant has expectorant properties.

APPLICATIONS IN MEDICINE

Aboveground part. In folk medicine, infusion, decoction – for uterine bleeding, prolonged jaundice, kidney disease; as an expectorant in diseases of the upper respiratory tract; externally – washed contaminated wounds, also in the form of compresses – for abscesses, ulcers, scabies.

DOSAGE FORMS, METHOD OF APPLICATION AND DOSES

♦ Infusion of common tar grass: 1 tablespoon of raw material is poured into 200 ml of boiling water, insisted, then filtered. Take 1 tablespoon 3 times every day.

APPLICATIONS IN OTHER FIELDS

Good honey plant, gives the bees a lot of nectar, pollen and glue. Decorative, used in groups on lawns, in mixborders.

ELEMENTS OF AGROTECHNICAL CULTIVATION

Smolka sticky prefers moist soils and open lighted areas. Sowing seeds in open ground or a greenhouse is carried out in April. Seedlings are planted in a permanent place in spring or autumn at a distance of 15-20 cm from each other.
