Pharmacy name: Thuja sprigs – Thujae herba (formerly: Summitates Thujae).
Botanical description. Evergreen coniferous tree up to 20 m in height. The branches depart perpendicular to the trunk, bear scaly leaves arranged in regular rows. The fruits are small, cone-shaped, with woody scales. The homeland of the plant is North America; in Central Europe it is cultivated as an ornamental tree or shrub.
Active ingredients: essential oil containing that ion, sesquiterpenes, flavonoids.
Application. From the young shoots of thuja, rubbing against rheumatism and tea used as a diuretic were previously prepared. In homeopathy, Thuja occidentalis is used for rheumatism, colds, skin rashes, and neuralgia.
