Larger plant, reaching 1.5 m tall. The stem is thick, with 9-20 smooth ribs, simple or with short branches. Sporonosit in June-July.
It is traditionally found in swamps, banks of rivers and ponds, in marshy places.

The herb contains the alkaloid equisetin, saponins.
In folk medicine, a decoction of the herb is drunk for diseases of the kidneys and bladder, uterine bleeding, rheumatism, and aches.
