The fruits are used for medicinal purposes.

It is cultivated as a spicy plant almost throughout Ukraine and in individual gardens, as well as on collective farms and state farms.

Stocks of raw materials are large (tens of tons of fruits can be harvested annually). Industrial blanks are expedient in almost all regions of Ukraine.

Preparations are made when 50-60% of fruits ripen (July). Plants are pulled out by hand or cut with sickles or knives and tied into sheaves, which are dried under sheds with good ventilation. Then the sheaves are threshed and the fruits are separated from impurities on sieves or winnowers.

According to OST NKVT 5519/2, the raw material consists of separate flat, oval-oblong or elongated-ovoid fruits 3-7 mm long and up to 4 mm wide, brownish in color with yellowish median and light yellow lateral ribs. The smell is strong, aromatic, peculiar. The taste is sweetish, spicy, slightly pungent.

Essential oil should be at least 2.5-4%.

Raw materials are packed in bags weighing 50 kg. It is stored in dry, well-ventilated rooms on pallets and racks in the group of essential oil raw materials. Dill fruits contain up to 4% essential oil, 20% fatty oil, flavonoids, coumarins.

They are used as a diuretic, carminative, gastric and hypotensive agent in infusion; is part of the gastric and antihemorrhoid collections, get the product anetin.

It is widely used in the food, canning, liquor industry and for the production of essential oils.
