Horsetail (Equisetum silvaticum L.)

Horsetail is a plant belonging to the horsetail family (Equisetaceae).

Description:

Plant 20-60 cm tall. It differs from other horsetails in its downwardly branched branches and stem, in the upper part seated with two rows of short papillae. Sporonosity in May. Common in forests and shrubs, sometimes in fields.

Contains active substances:

Horsetail contains alkaloid equisetin, saponins.

Medicinal use:

An aqueous decoction of the herb is drunk for diseases of the bladder, kidneys and liver, stomach diseases, pulmonary tuberculosis, and bleeding.
