Onion family – Alliaceae.
For medicinal purposes, fresh bulbs are used.
The well-known plant is grown in Ukraine everywhere in the garden culture.
GOST 7977-67 – the raw material consists of ripened dry whole clean bulbs with the remainder of the stem no more than 1-5 cm in length. In raw materials it is allowed: bulbs with fallen cloves – no more than 4%, individual cloves – no more than 1%.
Packed in boxes or bags. Store in a dry, well-ventilated area.
Bulbs contain garlic essential oil, glycoside, alliin, phytoncides, ascorbic acid, iodine.
The allylsate product is prepared from garlic, which is an alcohol extract from the bulbs. The drugs have bactericidal, antifungal, antihelminthic properties and are recommended for atherosclerosis, hypertension, pulmonary tuberculosis, as well as for all forms of colitis, diarrhea, chronic amoebic dysentery.
Widely used as a food product.
