Perennial herbaceous plant of the labiumaceae family. The stem is erect, 25-100 cm tall, branched, four-sided, like the whole plant, it is covered with stubby hairs. Leaves transversely opposite, petiolate; bright green from above, whitish and fluffy from below; the lower ones are rounded or ovoid, five-seven-finger dissected almost to the middle, with a heart-shaped base, the upper ones are oblong, three-parted or three-lobed, with a wedge-shaped base. The flowers are irregular, sessile, collected in thick rings in the axils of the leaves at the tops of the shoots; double-lipped corolla, pale pink. Fruit of 4 one-seeded nut-shaped lobes. Blooms in June – September.

Distribution . Five-lobed nettle grows throughout Ukraine in littered places, near roads, among bushes, on forest edges, forest clearings, and clearings.

Procurement and storage . For the manufacture of medicines, the grass of dog’s nettle (Herba Leonuri cardiacae), collected at the beginning of the flowering of the plant, is used. The tops of plants up to 40 cm long and no more than 5 mm thick are cut off and dried in the shade, spread with a thin layer and often turned over so that they do not turn black. Artificial drying is carried out at a temperature of 50-60°. 20-25% of dry raw material is obtained. It is stored in dry rooms. The shelf life is 3 years. Dried dog nettle herb is available in pharmacies.

Medicinal forms and applications.

Internally – herbal infusion – Infusum herbae Leonuri (15 g of raw material per 200 ml of boiling water) 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day before meals;

tincture — Tinctura Leonuri (cook in 70% alcohol in a ratio of 1:5) 30-50 drops 3-4 times a day;

liquid nettle extract – Extractum Leonuri fluidum 15-20 drops 3-4 times a day;

a mixture of five-bladed nettle grass, common St. John’s wort and common yarrow, leaves of peppermint and walnut and medicinal chamomile flowers, taken in a ratio of 2:2:1:1:1:1, is prepared as an infusion (one and a half tablespoons of the mixture per 500 ml of boiling water) and drink 1/2—3/4 cup 2—3 times a day 30 minutes before meals in case of vegetative dystonia.
