A perennial herbaceous plant of the celery (umbrella) family. Stems are often numerous, cylindrical, knee-covered, 40-80 cm tall, slightly branched in the upper part. Basal and lower stem leaves are repeatedly trilobed, with terminal lobes linear, rough, 1.5-4 cm long. The flowers are small, bisexual, in complex 17-21-rayed umbels, at the base of which there is a wrapper of three linear-acuminate leaves shifted to one side, which fall early, and at the base of the umbrellas — wrappers of 5-6 linear-filamentous thinly pointed leaves ; calyx teeth very short; the petals are light yellow, broadly ovate, without a notch at the top. The fruit is an elliptic dicot, about 4-5 mm long. Blooms in July-August. During the fruiting period, plant stems, leaf sheaths,

Spread. Crimean smovd grows in the Mountainous and Southern Crimea on dry rocky slopes.

Procurement and storage . For medicinal purposes, the roots of the plant (Radix Peucedani ruthenici) are harvested, which are dug immediately after the seeds ripen or in early spring. After preliminary drying in the open air, the roots are dried in the attic or in a dryer at a temperature not higher than 30°. 16% of dry raw material is obtained. The shelf life is 2 years.

Chemical composition . The root plant contains essential oil and furocoumarin peucedanin.

Pharmacological properties and use . In folk medicine, a decoction of the roots of the Crimean smovy is used for coughs, headaches, epilepsy and as a means to improve digestion. The same broth is used to wash purulent wounds, rinse the mouth with toothache and bad breath.

Medicinal forms and applications. Internally – root decoction (10 g of raw material per 1 liter of boiling water) 1 tablespoon 4-5 times a day.
