Perennial herbaceous plant 40-100 cm tall, erect stem, with 2 opposite branches and opposite broadly lanceolate leaves, lower leaves in a basal rosette, all leaves above are bare, glossy, entire. Flowers in dense bluish-lilac spherical heads, fruits – achenes. Blooms in July-September.

Grows in wet meadows, forest edges, among shrubs. Occurs frequently.

Contains saponins, unexplored glycoside, tannins. Medicinal raw material is the whole plant with roots.

In folk medicine, the rhizome with roots is crushed, mixed with sugar and taken in a teaspoon for stomach pains, they drink an aqueous decoction of the whole plant for headaches, and wash the places affected by the scabies mite. It is also used as a diuretic, expectorant, for diseases of the throat, skin diseases, scabies.

Application

Decoction of the whole plant: 1 tbsp. spoon per 300 ml of water, drink for headaches, as a diuretic, expectorant, for sore throat, use for skin diseases, for washing purulent wounds, abrasions, for washing places affected by scabies.
