A small (15-35 cm) whitish-thinly hairy branched semi-shrub of the Labialaceae family. The leaves are opposite, elongated-obovate or elongated-linear, wedge-shaped narrowed to the base, sessile, with more or less folded toothed-serrate edges; bracts are oblong-lanceolate or almost linear. The flowers are bisexual, irregular, in small-flowered false rings, clustered at the ends of the branches in oval heads, forming a complex paniculate inflorescence: the calyx is bell-shaped, whitish-furry on the outside, oblique at the base, with ten veins and five elongated lanceolate teeth shorter than the tube; corolla double-lipped, yellowish-white, twice as long as the calyx, with an almost naked tube and an elongated lip densely pubescent on the outside. The fruit consists of four one-seeded nut-shaped lobes. Blooms from July to September.

Distribution . Samosil white wool grows in the southern part of the Forest Steppe (occasionally), in the Steppe and the Crimea on stony, mainly limestone and chalk outcrops, sometimes on seaside shell embankments.

Procurement and storage . For medicinal purposes, the grass of self-reliance (Herba Teucrii polii), which is harvested during the flowering period of the plant, is used. The collected raw materials are dried in the open air in the shade or in a well-ventilated room. Artificial drying is carried out at a temperature not higher than 45°. 25% of dry grass is obtained.

The plant is unofficial .

Chemical composition . The grass of the white woolly grass contains resinous substances (up to 6%), tannins, glycosides, flavonoids, bitter substance picropolin and essential oil, the main component of which is bornyl acetate.

Pharmacological properties and use . Infusion of the herb of the white hairy samoylo ​​has astringent and antimicrobial properties and is successfully used for hemorrhoids, diarrhea, pain in the stomach and intestines. In mixtures with other plants, samosily is used for medicinal dermatitis and furunculosis.

Medicinal forms and applications.

Internally – herbal infusion (2 tablespoons of raw material per 500 ml of boiling water, insist 1 hour, strain) half a glass 4 times a day before meals;

two tablespoons of a mixture (in equal measure) of the grass of the white woolly samoylus, common parilla and field horsetail, damask rose petals and lanceolate plantain leaves are infused for one hour in 500 ml of boiling water, strained, cooled and drunk half a glass 4 times a day before meals in case of drug-induced dermatitis ;

two tablespoons of a mixture of the grass Samosyl white woolly and ordinary paril (10 g each) and the roots of true burdock (50 g) are boiled for 5 minutes in 500 ml of boiling water, strained, cooled and taken half a glass 4 times a day before meals in case of furunculosis.
