Small-flowered gap-grass – inexpensive small-flowered grass

Name: Tear grass small-flowered – inexpensive small-flowered

Impatiens parviflora; Balsaminaceae family; inexpensive small-flowered

You cannot choose a better name for this plant. When its fruits are ripe, you only need to touch or catch them, and they will unfold (shoot) with force, scattering the seeds far away.

Small-flowered ragwort is a herbaceous annual with erect stems up to 120 (mostly 40-100) cm tall. The leaves of the plant are alternate, ovate or elliptical, up to 10 cm long, bluntly toothed at the edges. The peduncles are drooping, 2-5-flowered, so the flowers are “disguised” by the leaves located below them. The length of the flowers is up to 3 cm, they are yellow, irregular, with a spur. The plant blooms in June-September. The fruit is a box. Homeland of split-grass is Central Asia. It is common in all regions of Russia, usually in moist forests and ravines, shaded places. In Ukraine, it grows in the northern part of the forest-steppe zone, in Polissia, in the Carpathians in similar places. Sometimes it forms continuous thickets. Often occurs in remote gardens and old parks.

The plant is non-official (used only in folk medicine). They use all parts of the tear-grass. Raw materials are harvested during flowering. Grass and roots are dried under shelter in the open air.

The herb contains flavone glycosides (0.43%), alkaloids (0.0016%), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), carotene (provitamin A), organic acids and some other compounds.

Experimental studies have proven that the products of the small-flowered ragwort have a specific effect on the neuromuscular apparatus of the uterus (increase its contractions and stop bleeding).

In traditional medicine, the plant is used internally as a means of sedative (calming), hypotensive (lowers blood pressure) and antitoxic effects. The infusion of the herb regulates the menstrual cycle, stimulates childbirth and stops uterine bleeding, it is also used for urolithiasis. Externally, the products of the tear-herb are used for the treatment of hemorrhoids and wounds.

Infusion of grass with roots. 10 g of chopped grass with roots per 200 ml of boiling water. Insist for 1-2 hours, filter. Take 1/4 cup 3 times a day.
