The ring finger is white – the heel is white

Perennial herbaceous plant of the rose family. It has a lignified, thick, oblique rhizome, which ends in a bundle of leaves collected in a basal rosette. Basal leaves – with long petioles, pinnately divided, dark green above, glabrous, silvery hairy below; leaves (5 of them) are elongated lanceolate, with small teeth at the top. Flowering stems are thin, ascending, with 1-3 tripartite leaves, emerging from the axils of basal leaves. The flowers are bisexual, regular, 5-petalled, collected in 2-4 thin umbels; petals are white, broadly obovate, notched. The fruit consists of nut-shaped seeds. Blooms in May – June.

Spread. White foxglove grows in forests, shrubs and forest edges in Polissia, in the forest-steppe and in the foothills of the Carpathians.

Procurement and storage . For medicinal purposes, the herb or whole plant (herb with a rhizome) of foxglove is used. Flowering plants are collected and dried, spreading in a thin layer, on frames in the shade or in a dry, ventilated room.

The plant is unofficial .

Chemical composition . White thimble contains tannins (polyphenols and condensed tannins), elemental iodine, iodic acid anion (IO 3 ) —, saponins and various elements, namely: sodium, calcium, aluminum, nickel, bismuth, lanthanum, molybdenum, lithium, cobalt, copper, silver, zinc, iron and manganese. The root system of the plant is characterized by a higher content of biologically active substances.

Pharmacological properties and use . Experiments carried out in clinical conditions have established that the aqueous infusion of the plant is quite effective for the treatment of thyrotoxicosis. The course of treatment is one month. If necessary, it is repeated after a two-month break.

Medicinal forms and applications. Internally , the infusion (10 g of raw material per 200 ml of boiling water) is taken depending on the stage of the disease and the condition of the patient’s heart from 1 tablespoon to a third of a glass 2-3 times a day (the individual dose is selected by the doctor!)
