Pahuchka zvichayna – common pahuchka

Perennial herbaceous plant of the labiumaceae family. The stem is four-sided, straight, sparsely branched, hairy, 30-70 cm tall. The leaves are opposite, small, ovate or elongated-ovate, finely serrate-serrate, hairy. The flowers are irregular (corolla double-lipped, purple, twice as long as the calyx), small, with bristly-linear, the same length as the calyx, dense bracts, in 15-40-flowered rings that create hemispherical terminal inflorescences; calyx tubular, double-lipped, with 13 veins, densely pubescent, with needle-shaped teeth. The fruit consists of 4 one-seeded nut-shaped lobes. Blooms in June – August.

Spread. Pahuchka commona grows throughout the territory of Ukraine (except the south of the Steppe) on the edges of deciduous and mixed forests, among shrubs.

Raw. Pahuchka grass is used for medical purposes. Flowering plants are collected and dried.

The plant is unofficial.

The chemical composition of pahuchka needs to be studied. It is only known that the grass of the plant contains fragrant essential oil and tannins.

Pharmacological properties and use . From the experience of folk medicine, it is known that common oleander helps with headaches, dysentery, coughs and diseases of the respiratory tract and diarrhea. Steamed grass is applied to swellings as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Medicinal forms and applications . Internally – herbal infusion (1 tablespoon of raw material per 200 ml of boiling water, infuse for 30 minutes in a thermos) 2 tablespoons 3-4 times a day.

Externally – poultices (2-3 tablespoons of grass wrapped in gauze, steamed in boiling water) for swellings.
